    Zhongbo received a departmental outstanding teaching award for the 2017/18 academic year, for teaching Physics 110B and 115A.

    Zhongbo is on a delegation for a visit to Capitol Hill on the "EIC hill day", organized by Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) User Group, see a photo here. The main goal of the visit is to convey the excitement and importance of the physics of a future Electron-Ion Collider facility following the recent release of the report by the National Academy of Sciences.

    Zhongbo was invited to serve on UCLA 2019 Undergraduate Research Fellows Program (URFP) Review Committee. URFP is directed through the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and administered by the Undergraduate Research Center - Sciences. URFP is a two-quarter program that supports students who will be conducting a STEM research project with a UCLA Faculty Mentor.

    Jared's first paper in the group appeared on arXiv.org today. The study is about "light and heavy flavor production and dijet mass modification in heavy ion collisions". Great job!

    John Terry and Jared Reiten participated in an outreach event today. This event was organized by the Organization for Cultural Diversity in Science (OCDS), aimed at showing UCLA undergraduates the benefits of pursuing degrees/careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). See some pictures taken during the event.

    Zhongbo is invited to serve as a focus convener for the Quarkonium Working Group on the topic of Electron Ion Collider (EIC).

    Zhongbo visited SLAC's theory group and presented an Elementary Particle Physics (EPP) Theory Seminar. SLAC was originally named Stanford Linear Accelerator Center and is now usually called SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory.

    Our undergraduate student, Andrew Gordeev, has been selected to be an Undergraduate Research Scholar for the 2018 - 2019 academic year and been awarded a scholarship of $5,000 through UCLA Undergraduate Research Scholars Program (URSP). Such a scholarship will support Andrew's research in our group. Congratulations, Andrew!

    The program "Probing Nucleons and Nuclei in High Energy Collisions" will be held at Institute for Nuclear Theory at University of Washington, Seattle, during October 1 - November 16, 2018. Zhongbo is a convener for the second week workshop (October 8 - 12): "Workshop on Transverse spin and TMDs". For more information, see here.

    Zhongbo received Faculty Career Development Award from UCLA Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. At the same time, Zhongbo also received a Faculty Research Grant from UCLA Academic Senate Council on Research.

    Today the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine released their report on the proposed Electron Ion Collider (EIC), a billion-dollar accelerator. The report committee glowingly approved of the science that could be done with the EIC. Such physics is one of the primary focus of our research group. See more news here, here, here, and here.

    Zhongbo started his one-week visit today at Center for Frontiers in Nuclear Science, which was established by Stony Brook University and Brookhaven National Laboratory in 2017. The center will push the frontiers of knowledge about quarks, gluons and their interactions that form protons, neutrons, and ultimately 99.9% of the mass of atoms - the bulk of the visible universe.

    John Terry attended HUGS 2018 summer school held by Jefferson Lab. After the summer school, he visited JLab Theory Center for one more week.

    The Electron Ion Collider (EIC) User Group Meeting 2018 will take place at the Catholic University of America in Washington D.C. during July 30 - August 2, 2018. The EIC User Group promotes the realization of the EIC and its science, and consists of over 800 scientists. Zhongbo is a convener for the session "Jets, Energy Loss, Hadronization, and Nuclear Structure". For more information, see here

    CIPANP 2018 (Thirteenth Conference on the Intersections of Particle and Nuclear Physics) will be held in Palm Springs, CA during May 28 - June 3, 2018. This is a conference series designed to explore areas of interest to scientists working in elementary particle physics, nuclear physics, nuclear and particle astrophysics, and cosmology, and it is held every three years. Zhongbo is a convener for the session "Parton and Gluon Distributions in Nucleons and Nuclei". For more information, see here.
