John and Fanyi participated in 2019 Fall Science and Engineer Showcase, an outreach event organized by Organization for Cultural Diversity in Science (OCDS). OCDS strives to create a close-knit community among the graduate students in the sciences, with an emphasis in increasing cultural diversity at UCLA. Zhongbo attended RIKEN BNL Research Center Workshop - "QCD Spin Physics: A Symposium to Honor Jacques Soffer". Jacques (1940 - 2019) was a tireless supporter and advocate of the RHIC spin program from its very beginnings, and has made numerous seminal contributions to the program. Jacques was a great friend of Zhongbo: he has collaborated with Zhongbo scientifically, and has encouraged Zhongbo in many occasions! Zhongbo shared his story and memories of Jacques Soffer, who for sure will be remembered by many of us. - 09/19/2019
Zhongbo attended the 2019 Faculty Workshop on Best Practices in Teaching, which is organized by UCLA Center for Education Innovation & Learning in the Sciences (CEILS). The workshop is extremely informative and inspirational. - 09/09/2019
The 9th International Conference on Physics Opportunities at an ElecTron-Ion-Collider (POETIC 9) will be held at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, during September 16 to 21, 2019. Zhongbo is on the local organizing committee, for conference details, see here. The primary goal of the conference is to continue the advancement of the field of electron-ion collider physics. - 08/30/2019

Zhongbo presented three lectures on "Three-dimensional structure of the nucleon" at the first CFNS Summer School on the Physics of the Electron Ion Collider. Fanyi attended this summer school as a graduate student. See details here. - 07/16/2019

Zhongbo has received a RHIC & AGS Merit Award from RHIC/AGS Users' Executive Committee at Brookhaven National Laboratory. He was cited "for his unique and ground-breaking theoretical contributions to the field of transverse momentum dependent parton distribution functions and jet physics." - 06/10/2019
Zhongbo was invited to serve on UCLA 2019 Undergraduate Research Scholars Program (URSP) Review Committee. URSP is directed through the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and administered by the Undergraduate Research Center - Sciences. URSP is a three-quarter program that supports students conducting advanced STEM research projects with a UCLA Faculty Research Mentor. - 04/15/2019
Jared received a prestigious fellowship from University of California Office of the President: UC-National Lab In-Residence Graduate Fellowship. Among the ten UC campuses, only three graduate students received such an honor in 2019. More information here. Congratulations! - 01/31/2019

We have received funding from Center for Frontiers in Nuclear Science (CFNS) at Brookhaven National Laboratory and Stony Brook University to establish an Inaugural CFNS-University Postdoctoral Fellowship at UCLA. Dr. Dingyu Shao from CERN theory group will be joining us under such a fellowship in the fall.
