  Zhongbo received department's Teaching Innovator of the Year Award for the 2019/20 academic year.

  For the first time, we applied jet charge to study spin asymmetries, in order to achieve flavor separation. This research is now published in Physical Review Letters. See an interesting illustrative picture here. Thanks a lot to our outstanding collaborators Xiaohui, Sonny, and our postdoc Dingyu.

  Our "California Consortium at the Electron-Ion Collider" has been selected for funding for 4 years, by UC Office of the President via Multicampus Research Programs and Initiatives (MRPI). The consortium will be led by Barbara Jacak of Berkeley, and includes 4 UC campuses: UC Berkeley, UC Davis, UCLA, UC Riverside, and 3 national labs: Berkeley Lab, Livermore, and Los Alamos. We are very excited to be part of the great team!

  Zhongbo made a presentation and participated in the event, Exposure to the Fields of Research, organized by UCLA Life Science Student Association (LSSA).

  Zhongbo organized a booth - "Nuclear and Particle Physics" for Exploring Your Universe, the largest UCLA outreach event. Kyle, Sasza, Azmain, and Jet helped the event as volunteers. Thanks a lot for their great help. See a picture here and our twitter post for more details.

  Zhongbo is helping organizing "Jets for 3D imaging at the EIC" workshop, to be held at UC Riverside during November 23 - 25, 2020. For details, see here.

  Kyle Lee, a graduate student at Stony Brook who has been working with us closely in the past a few years, successfully defended his Ph.D. thesis this morning via ZOOM. Congratulations, Dr. Lee! Good luck for your next journey at Berkeley.

  Zhongbo has won an NSF Career Award for theoretical work in quantum chromodynamics and nucleon structure. The award will support our research program for the next five years during 07/2020 - 06/2025.

  Fanyi passed the oral qualifying exam and has successfully advanced to PhD candidacy. Congratulations!

  Our undergraduate student Amanda has received a REU fellowship for the summer, to work with us on a research project exploring color glass condensate.

  Efforts have been made recently by leaders in both sides, aiming for increasing research ties between UCLA and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL). On February 28, a UCLA workshop with scientific representatives from LBNL took place at the Luskin Conference Center. It was a very successful meeting. In response to the efforts, our nuclear physics group started to listen to the nuclear seminars remotely with the help of LBNL partners.

  Due to the rapidly escalating heath concerns relating to the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), we have to cancel our QCD Evolution 2020 Workshop. We plan to reschedule the conference in 2021 and still host it at UCLA.

  Together with Prof. Huang, Zhongbo sponsored Physics and Astronomy Social of Friday, January 31, from 4:00 - 7:00PM on the third floor PAB patio. There are free pizza, snacks, and plentiful refreshments, as well as music and trivia. See a poster here.

  Today, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced the selection of Brookhaven National Laboratory as the site for a planned major new nuclear physics research facility - the Electron Ion Collider (EIC), a major step towards the ultimate realization of the EIC. See details here.
